it's still below freezing from napa to novato. as we widen out, you can see still below freezing in places like livermore where they're at 31. even concord the 32. san jose 32 right now and sunnyvale 29 cold degrees. we are cold, and even dangerously cold. this is the kind of weather you have to take it easy in and take it cautiously on those roadways. waking up to some beautiful sunrises this morning across the peninsula, the east bay, even san francisco. our camera guy back there adjusting some of those shots. you can see if you look at the peninsula, just an awesome shot. just a few high thin clouds. by the afternoon hours, we'll get rid of the clouds but we're not going to get rid of the cold. we only top out in the mid to upper 40s across the entire bay today and that freeze warning, that actually remains in effect through tomorrow morning. i'll have more on that and if we're going to see major warm-up in a bit. >> thank you. >>> the unrelenting cold claimed another victim in dub lib. if his official cause of death is hypothe

into napa county is where we had snow that was slowing commuters down quite a bit likely potentially a half inch to over an inch. all that snow on the ground that could create icy and dangerous roads in the north bay. right now we have the heaviest zone across the trivalley and rainfall amounts to a tenth to a quarter inch per hour. san francisco getting nailed good down to about the airport producing delays there. back across the trivalley, this is where it is extremely dangerous. temperatures approaching the 30s and potentially icy spots on the roadwa roadways. highway 60 is the sore spot. you want to do not any early morning traveling as this rainfall will likely linger for the next two to hours. snow reports on highway 17, that is going to be extremely dangerous all the way through the mid-and late morning hours for tomorrow. that's where i am pinpointing the worst travel. the winter weather advisory and we want more from nbc bay area's cheryl hurd. i can see the traffic behind you. what are things like at this moment? >> it is wet and cold and dangerous because it is slick. it s

degrees in san francisco. 51 out in the north bay, where we had 19 degrees earlier this morning in napa. broke a record here in the south bay when we bottomed out at 25 degrees. so let's get right to it. another night of widespread frost. the temperatures are going to creep up a touch this evening. but overall, it's still going to be cold enough for that widespread frost tomorrow morning. make sure you keep an eye on your pets and dress in layers. then high pressure really starts to take control as we head through the next few days. this is going to do two things. it's going to bring about a gradual warming trend. it sets up shop over the bay area. we're going to see this stagnant air mass. as a result, that thick layer of smoke gets kind of capped right over the bay area. as we head throughout the next couple days, we'll likely be sparing the air as a result. not a lot of wind and no rain to clear this out. our next chance for rain doesn't even come until we hit friday into saturday. and it's not looking very good right now. about 10% shot up in the north bay. otherwise, a gradual warm
